Everybody has a city or two, or three, that they love, that they miss, that may have shaped them in varying ways. In the case of Once Upon a Table, their goal in hosting a secret supper club was to gather perfect strangers with different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences from different cities to share the appreciation of food. Yes, it’s that simple. This is what really makes Hong Kong one of those special cosmopolitan places — you can do this here. If you happen to be in Hong Kong and want more information on the next secret supper club gathering, check out Once Upon a Table.

Thank you for having us make our Hong Kong debut amongst great company, and deliciously beautiful food! We got such an enthusiastic response that it has spurred us into thinking that we need to start production on the other cities soon! Cheers!

Okay, not exactly “famous”, but a couple of cool design blogs have picked us up on their radar already!

If you’ve been to the SFMOMA store lately, you will have seen our plates and platters on display there. They did a fantastic job of merchandising and matched us up with these fantastic tea towels from Studiopatro. We love how the tea towels are as bold as the plates are subtle, and really showcase the mix/match potential for varied patterns. Love that orange pop of color! Check out the studio website for other patterns and color schemes, as well as info on where else you can find these tea towels for purchase. As Christina Weber of Studiopatro said and we couldn’t agree more, “it’s so nice to be in such good company.” Thank you, Christina!

While Studiopatro is a virtual neighbor in San Francisco, another site, far away in Ohio, also found us online. VisuaLingual has a ton of great stuff on their blog and an Etsy store where you can buy an assortment of housewares and decor items, all with a graphic flair. They love Cincinnati as much as we love San Francisco and their unique selection of products definitely reflects that!

It was definitely one of our goals to be carried in SFMOMA and I cannot tell you just how happy I am — how happy we all are —- that have reached our goal within 3 months of our launch date!!!! WOOHOO!!!

It’s so great to be in such a store where one can find many useful “form follows function” items. It was really fun to play on this classic ideaology and base our designs with city maps on porcelain, instead the traditional paper maps. The maps on our plates are still a recognized graphic shape — of the San Francisco neighborhoods and peninsula, and that is what makes our plates and platter fun and unique.

I’m ever so grateful for the generous help of my friends and family who helped make this happen! The SFMOMA team of folks decided to give us a go and for that, we are all very thankful!!!!

From former City Planner to indie designer of tableware! Who knew??

So, I hope you’ll take the time to go see our display in the store and help me spread the word that we are in SFMOMA Store! And…maybe buy a set or two, or three. Yah, baby!

Thank YOU all!!

So, the hunch was spot on…Bay Area folks love their San Francisco neighborhoods. The San Francisco neighborhood series sold out, and the platters were a big hit. Our only regret was that we weren’t able to bring more dishes with us from Hong Kong when we arrived earlier in the week. (Since we are still working out the details for shipping large amounts of product from overseas, the inventory was limited to what we could bring.) Check back to the website soon for more ordering and shipping information… we will have that up and running once we get home to HK in a few weeks.

Also interesting to note was how popular our canvas tote bags and makeup bags were. The makeup bags were the first to sell out — the cute colors were eye-catching and we sold two before the party even got started! If you bought a set of plates or a platter, you also received the matching tote bag to help you to carry your tableware home. It made folks happy and proud to be part of the Bay Area, and help keep things eco-green. We hope to see these bags popping up all around the City soon.

The party itself was a bit of a focus group to gather input on some new designs. On display were prototype designs for Paris, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Tokyo. The new cities were very well received, which was a good sign to start moving forward with those products. It definitely seemed like Paris was the most requested set, so it looks like this will be the next production run, with Hong Kong to follow. The Paris plates have a really interesting shape- sort of a rounded triangle- and the Hong Kong design is set on square plates. I feel eager and happy that these cities garnered support to make another round of “What’s Next!” Look for more updates and additions to the August Table website soon, and thank you for your support and encouragement to grow this project from a creative hobby into a full-fledged business.

PS- Special thanks to Mike , Linda, and Juniper for music and being supportive of my love for Lionel Richie and the Commodores! Also Lynna for her delicious desserts and Marco for supplying the wine- thank you so much!
